The Residency Posters

The Residency is a powerful community of young hip-hop performers equipped to become professional artists and cultural change makers. Their 2023 Summer Intensive program, The Art of Sampling to Live Musicianship, provided an amazing opportunity for youth who want to pursue careers in hip-hop. To motivate teens ages 16-19 to apply, ConceptShell designed fun, bright application and showcase event graphics featuring illustrations of The Residency’s talented staff, performers, interns, teachers, and partners, like Amir Islam (Executive Director), Pher (Director of Programs), Alyssa King (Program Events Manager), and Macklemore.

Our goal was to create awareness of the professional help and tools The Residency’s program provides to youth who have an established desire to create and perform music. Informational graphics would inspire potential participants by showing how they could advance and expand their skills in the music industry.

In the monthlong summer program, 30 participants select a vocal or production track, produce original songs, record in a professional studio, and learn about a career in music from some of the region’s best teaching artists. Participants learn business acumen from music leaders and gain a social justice lens from community activist leaders.

The Residency provides artists with a stipend for program attendance and a certificate signed by @macklemore and the entire staff upon completion. They also have access to year-round opportunities as The Residency alumni.

After applying, 25 participants were selected. We created a poster for the closing event, when they took center stage on August 24, 2023, to showcase their talent. They were celebrated, received certifications, and performed their final original songs successfully.

Thanks to The Residency for this opportunity, and congratulations to the artists who completed this program!

About The Residency

The Residency launched in July 2015 as a collaboration between the Museum of Pop Culture, Arts Corps, and Grammy-winning artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. It was created as a response to the glaring gap in access to high-quality, experiential arts education for low-income youth and has quickly become the preeminent training ground for the next generation of artists poised to leave a lasting mark on Seattle’s growing music industry.
