Everett District Station Billboard
ConceptShell’s Shayla Hufana was chosen to illustrate a story for this billboard for Everett Station District (ESD), the city of Everett, and Urban ArtWorks. We worked with ESD to learn about the city’s history, important facts, and many great things to come in the future. The billboard was 22 feet, 7 inches long and 10 feet, 5 inches tall and located on the Crown Building, located at 3409 McDougall Ave. in Everett, Washington.
Artist Statement
“Here are people of different cultures and backgrounds shown together as a community in the Everett Station District area, surrounded by historic and present-day objects and landmarks known and seen from within the neighborhood, such as Whitehorse Mountain, Mount Bullen, and Three Fingers Lookout, as a @boeing 777 flies across the sky toward a big bright sun. Old railways, a train, and streetcar are rolling in with a Sound Transit Link light rail pulling up. A whaleback ship is hauling logs to represent the city’s production mills, which are carrying Rosie, the elephant, paying homage to Forest Park. The @historiceveretttheatre and Rucker Mansion are seen in the background, with a flowerbed in front to represent the @evergreenarboretumandgardens and the American Goldfinch, state bird of Washington.
“Modern houses and apartments will soon be built for more people to call Everett home. A child points up to bubbles floating into the sky to create a frame and sense of family. Chief Patkanim, of the Snoqualmie and Snohomish tribe, is honored along with women of other Indigenous backgrounds wearing Native American outfits. Last but not least, the late Irah Sok is pictured with her son, Greyson. She was a beautiful, loving, and talented maternity, family, and boudoir photographer and member of the Filipino community who spread her wings in August 2022. Rest in Peace, Irah. Love to the family. 🕊️
“Thank you to those including friends and family who were open to being drawn into this project. ❤️”
